FA - Fall Arrest when working at height
Duration - 1 day

Explain and perform fall arrest techniques when working at height. The person credited with this unit standard is able to follow fall arrest principles to perform work in a fall risk position safely, under supervision of a qualified supervisor

    What will the learner be able to do?
  • Explain the use of a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  • Explain the limitations of a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  • Inspect a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  • Assemble a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  • Store a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  • Use fall arrest systems with a double lanyard
  • Use pre-installed vertical and horizontal lifelines

FAR - Fall Arrest Rescue
Duration - 2 Days

Install, use and perform basic rescues from fall arrest systems and implement the fall protection plan. The person credited with this unit standard will take responsibility for inspection and installation of fall arrest systems and for implementing fall protection plans and rescues.

What will the learner be able to do?
  • Explain and use a range of fall arrest equipment
  • Explain and use basic rope knots
  • Install and use fall arrest systems
  • Inspect and assemble fall arrest equipment and systems
  • Interpret and implement a fall protection plan
  • Perform basic fall arrest rescues to bring a casualty down to safety

FPP - Fall Protection Planner
Duration - 3 Days

Assess a worksite for work at height and prepare a fall protection plan. The person credited with this unit standard will be responsible for the safety and protection of people working in a fall risk position where there is a risk of injury from a fall.

What will the learner be able to do?
  • Perform a risk assessment of a worksite where work is to be done in a fall risk position
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fall arrest equipment and advanced fall arrest rescue
  • Explain effects of suspensions trauma
  • Develop fall protection and rescue plans for people working in a fall risk position
  • Manage safety of personnel working in a fall risk position

S1 - Aluminium Scaffolding User and Inspector
Duration - 1 Day

Erect and dismantle pre-fabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding.

What will the learner be able to do?
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations
  • Guidance affecting working at height with mobile access towers
  • Assemble, alter and dismantle towers 
  • Incorporating current best practive for fall protection, inspection of completed towers and inspection records
  • Identify the hazards affecting the use of mobile access towers
  • How to avoid hazards identified 

Ladder User
Duration - 1 Day

The safe use of ladders.

What will the learner be able to do?
  • Demonstrate selecting of correct ladder/s for intended tasks
  • Demonstrate an inspection of a ladder
  • Demonstrate loading and securing of a ladder for transport
  • Demonstrate untie and unloading of a ladder
  • Demonstrate various techniques to carry a selection of ladders to the workplace
  • Demonstrate various methods for the setup and takedown of step ladders, single ladders and extension ladders up to 14m
  • Demonstrate ascent and descent of a ladder
  • Demonstrate take down or relocating of a ladder
  • Demonstrate storage of ladders in a designated area or remove from site

Temporary Suspended Platform User/Operator
Duration - 1 Day

The use and operating of Temporary Suspended Platforms (TSP)

What will the learner be capable of?
  • Demonstrate an inspection of the erected TSP before each shift
  • Demonstrate testing of the TSP safety devices prior to use
  • Explain action to be taken on discovery of a suspected default
  • Demonstrate emergency procedures in case of a power failure
  • Demonstrate emergency procedures in case of a malfunction
  • Demonstrate the use of an emergency handle to reset a skylock in a “no power” event
  • Park the platform and secure at the end of a shift

Temporary Suspended Platform Erector
Duration - 3 Days

Safe erecting, relocating and dismantling of Temporary Suspended Platforms (TSP)

What will the learner be capable of?
  • List the different types of TSP’s
  • Explain the definitions associated with TSP’s 
  • Demonstrate proper care in handling steel wire rope
  • Demonstrate assembly and erection of TSP’s with a selection of different top fixings including outriggers, parapet clams, wire rope slings and trestles
  • Demonstrate procedures for relocating the erected TSP
  • Demonstrate the testing and installation of a safety brake (skylock)
  • Demonstrate the pre use visual inspection of TSP
  • Demonstrate testing of safety devices including skylock, emergency stop and break release
  • Demonstrate a no power decent
  • Demonstrate procedures for securing a TSP at the end of a shift
  • Demonstrate basic fault-finding procedures

Supervise, inspect and control the use of Temporary Suspended Platforms
Duration - 5 Days

The person credited with this unit standard is able to ensure that TSP's are used safely and efficiently on a construction site. It will also enable them to conduct the necessary inspections to ensure that safety is maintained for the duration of the "TSP's" usage

What will the learner be capable of?
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of different types of TSP’s
  • Controlling installation and testing of TSP’s in the workplace
  • Monitoring and controlling safe working practices of TSP operators
  • Maintaining safe use of the TSP’s in the workplace
  • Identifying hazards and risks to TSP users and implement measures to prevent injuries
  • Controlling the repositioning of the TSP’s
  • Conduct a thourough Risk Assessment 
  • Implement control measures 
  • Stability calculations of suspension rigs
  • Rated loads and positioning of rated loads on platforms
  • Identify the limitations of the TSP
  • Load Testing of installed system
  • Conduct daily safety inspections
  • Implement a Fall Protection Plan
